Testing a new aircraft is no small thing, with the A350 Airbus have been taking it on various flights around the world. These flights are designed to demonstrate the aircraft’s readiness for airline operations and is part of the final stage toward certification.
Recently Airbus completed a four-trip route-proving campaign with a next-generation A350 XWB. Complete with engineers, passengers and their hand luggage!
On this four stop trip, this highly-efficient jetliner made stops in Doha, Perth, Moscow and Helsinki to wrap up a campaign that amassed some 81,700 nautical miles in approximately 180 flight hours. These visits gave a chance for some of the airliner customers to experience the aircraft for themselves with their pilots and crew getting real ‘hands-on’ experience. Some pilots had the job of flying and landing the new aircraft.
The A350 XWB performed as expected and on schedule at each destination. Airbus expect it to achieve Type Certification in the third quarter of 2014. With the launch customer’s first A350 looking ready to fly it wont be long before Qatar Airways takes delivery of their latest airliner.
