Sikorsky Helicopters had one of its busiest months on record as 2012 came to a close, delivering nine “green” aircraft and five fully completed S-92® helicopters.
The solid execution of the SGH-PA team at year-end came in anticipation of a busy year ahead as the company works to deliver the first S-76D™ helicopters.
“Green” aircraft are aircraft that are fully assembled and ready for customization according to a particular customer’s requirements.”
“SGH-PA delivered an impressive 55 commercial aircraft in 2012,” said Dorith Hakim, SGH-PA General Manager.
“This was both S-76® and S-92 green aircraft and completions. It certainly was a busy year for SGH-PA, as we increased S-92 production volume, achieved type certification of the S-76D and delivered our first S-76D production aircraft. We are well positioned for 2013, with demonstrated performance and continuing with that momentum, expect to deliver a record number of commercial aircraft in the coming months.”
SGH-PA is the main manufacturing facility for Sikorsky S-92 and S-76D helicopters. The operation includes a full production facility and completion centre anchored by the HELIPLEX™ state-of-the-art facility.
Dan Hunter, Director of Sikorsky’s Commercial Programs, added, “We are very proud of our abilities in Coatesville in customizing our interiors. We also take pride in the delivery process, which we have continued to adapt to provide our customers with the ultimate experience in accepting their new aircraft from Sikorsky. We are looking forward to providing many of our customers with a great delivery experience throughout 2013 and beyond.”
Recent Heliplex construction efforts added more than 15,000 square feet of additional high-bay space to the site, allowing the hangars to accommodate nine additional build positions (four S-76 and five S-92 helicopters). An additional 15,000 square feet was added to the warehousing portfolio to allow for parts storage to meet increased production needs. Overall, the facility is positioned for growth and flexibility to accommodate customer needs.
